Easy 80’s Leg Warmers: Free Crochet Pattern
There’s nothing worse than wanting to wear leggings and flats, but the weather doesn’t want to cooperate. Here in the Midwest it gets downright disrespectful, so I’m frequently reaching for a pair of leg warmers to keep my ankles warm.
Whether you are crocheting leg warmers because you are always cold or as an addition to your yoga wardrobe, this free pattern is going to be your new favorite. They are simple to make and you can color coordinate with your favorite leggings, or to give your whole outfit an extra pop of color.
The ribbing on these is comfortable and will keep them in place while you are running around or exercising. The slouchy feel of the main body portion is breathable, yet warm at the same time. Oh and let’s not forget the squish factor, cause they have it in spades!
What kinds of yarn work best for leg warmers? If you are looking for the warmest, that would be Qiviut. It is a lightweight and super warm yarn made from the soft down under-wool of a Musk Ox, but it is also very expensive.
More economical choices are Superwash Fine Merino Wool, Wool of the Andes Tweed, Red Heart Super Saver, Brava Worsted, Lion Brand Wool Ease, and Premier’s Stitch Please Superwash.
These warmers would be perfect for an 80’s themed party or Halloween costume too. Grab your curliest wig, a headband, and all things neon. Put on some Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and let’s make some bodacious leg warmers!
