One pattern that I just knew had to be made available in child sizes? The Basic V-Neck Sweater! This one is so cute on the littles and works up so fast, too! Let’s whip one up for our little ones with this easy and free crochet pattern.

Child Size Basic V-Neck Sweater

The Basic V-Neck sweater for kids is worked ever so slightly different than that for adults. This is actually a bit easier to crochet than the adult version so if you’ve made that sweater for yourself, you know it is incredibly simple which means this one is a BREEZE! 😍

For this sweater I used Brava Worsted yarn in the “Fairy Tale” colorway. I just love the vibrancy of it, so I think I may have to order more so I can make one for myself in the adult size. 😊

  1. Im making the v neck sweater.when done with the body you say to skip 25 stitches and sew side seams. Skip 25 stitches where? Where do you start counting from to do this? Is it 25 stitches on back n front or all together? Its not explaining very well
    1. Hi Marion! Starting at the bottom, you will seam up until 25 sts are left unworked at the top...those open stitches will be the armhole/sleeve opening.
  2. Hey there! Super adorable sweater, I’d love to give a try. I’m soooooooo not good at reading patterns, I’m a visual learner. I jumped on YouTube to see if you had this sweater pattern on there for kiddos, I didn’t find one. Have you made a video tutorial for it and I”m just not seeing it? Thanks oodles, TomiRae
  3. Is there a visual for this pattern or similar I am not very good following written pattern. So want to make this for all grandchildren. Thank you from a hopeful Nanny
  4. Hello Ashlea, it's been awhile since I'd last messaged you, and I has since made a few of your creations, which turned out beautifully. Now I see, there's another project to achieve....lol This sweater is gorgeous and I can't wait to make it! I just want to thank you for sharing with us your beautiful patterns.
  5. Dear Ashlea, this is so adorable. I'll be a great grandma again in about 10 days and made a pink baby blanket with your instructions. I've always knitted sweaters but with this pattern I must make 1 for my other greatgrandchild, a boy, and then for the not yet born girl (they always grow you know), and by the time I'm done with that one, you might have adult sizes(?) PLEASE! You are a wonderful instructor! Thank you so much!!!
    1. Hi Ursula! Congratulations on the upcoming great-grandbaby! You won't need to wait for the adult version, because I already have that posted and it can be found here: https://hearthookhome.com/basic-v-neck-sweater-free-crochet-pattern/
  6. Oh.....Ashlea! This sweater is totally adorable. Can you tell I grew up in the 80s? I have made afghan and toys. I think it is time for me to try a sweater for the grand kiddos. Thank you and bless your heart.
    1. I'd try a gauge swatch 1st to see how it comes out...you may need to go down a hook size and up a pattern size.
