Duster for Cleaning Custom Miniย Blinds

Cleaning wooden blinds isn’t anywhere close to the top of my list of favorite things to do. In fact, I do all I can to avoid it. But spring cleaning, whether I like it or not, is here. Let’s make cleaning mini blinds as easy as possible, mmkay? In our home we have pre-made faux-wood blinds from Lowe’s, but this duster would work perfect on custom blinds as well.

Custom Blinds Cleaner

Use it with or without tongs, I personally like to use my fingers and make sure I’m really getting in there.

Materials:

Size H Crochet hook
Cotton yarn
Upholstery needle for weaving in ends

Crochet terms and notes:

FLO = front loop only
BLO = back loop only

The chain at the beginning of the row does NOT count as a stitch. Start each new row in the same st as join. See all crochet terms explained here.

Pattern:

Make twoโ€ฆ
Round 1: Magic circle, ch-2, 8 dc in circle. Join to top of first dc and pull circle closed.
Round 2: Ch-1, sl st in FLO of first st, ch-3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next. * sl st in FLO of first st, ch-3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next * Repeat between * * 6 times. Join to top of first st with sl st. (8 phalanges made)
Round 3: Ch-2, 2dc in BLO of each st from round 2. Join to top of first dc with sl st (16 sts)
Round 4: Ch-1, sl st in FLO of first st, ch-3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next. * sl st in FLO of first st, ch-3, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next * Repeat between * * 14 times. Join to top of first st with sl st.(16 phalanges made)
Round 5: Ch-2, * dc in BLO of each st from round 4. around. Join to top of first dc with sl st (16 sts)
Repeat rows 4 & 5 three more times
Round 12: Ch-2, dc in each st around. Join to top of first dc with sl st (16 sts)

When finished with the second, do not fasten off. Continue to strapโ€ฆ
Row 1: Ch-2, dc in next 6 sts.
Rows 2 & 3: Ch-2, turn. Dc in each st across.
Fasten off leaving long tail.

Use the tail to sew the two sides together. Weave in ends. Done!

I love so much about this duster for blinds. I love that I can throw the duster in the washer when I’m finished, unlike the commercial duster available on the market. I also love that I can use tongs if I like or my fingers and thumb as well. I am going to use my Window Cleaning Spray recipe to get the cotton fabric a little moist (yes, moist ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) before wiping them down. Isn’t this just the best way to clean blinds?!   12. What an awesome idea. I'd have to try it myself to be sure, but it looks like this would do a better job than even one of those "dusting mitts" I've seen before. You made the fingers on it nice and fluffy so you'd end up cleaning two blinds with one wipe - now that's what I call efficiency ;)
  13. Dear Ashlea, These look great... as I get older the harder I find it is to clean the blinds : ( So I will have a try at making these... will let you know how I go after I get time to make them.
