Bella Coco Merino Yarn Review

My friend Sarah-Jayne has partnered with Hobbii to debut a new, lightweight Merino wool line that is perfect for all things from ear warmers to cardigans: the NEW Bella Coco Merino! Let’s dive into this yarn and see if we can’t get “hooked”.

Bella Coco Yarn Review

This new, lightweight, airy merino yarn called Bella Coco Merino is a lightweight, size 2 yarn that comes in 30 gorgeous shades and 5 print colorways. There are pastels, neutrals, and bright tones that all blend together seamlessly. I know that Sarah-Jayne hand picked these colorways and they compliment each other so beautifully! Great yarn for crocheters. This yarn is especially geared toward crocheters, in that the twist is going the opposite direction than “normal”. I’ve got an entire blog post about “S” vs “Z” twist if you care to dive in but the short version is that typically mills will twist the yarn in an “S” twist during manufacture which, as crocheters, can begin to untwist as we crochet. This leads to the yarn splitting and snags every so often in your work.

By twisting the yarn the opposite direction during the milling process, the yarn is now a “Z” twist meaning that it can not unravel as you work. You are twisting the yarn in the same direction instead of slowly unravelling as you make your stitches. This results in less splitting of the yarn, and fewer snags or missed loops which results in overall better stitch definition.

This yarn is incredibly soft. Being that it is made from 100% merino wool, there is a slight halo to it. Isn’t that fuzziness just lovely? It is just as soft as it looks. This yarn feels like you’re crocheting with air. I have noticed that it is important to not pull on the yarn overmuch as you work, and let the yarn flow freely as you pull from the ball.
