Single Crochet Sock Pattern

The first pattern in Sock Week is the Single Crochet Sock. Because this is a new style of construction I wanted to start out Sock Week with a no-frills, straight forward approach to crocheting socks. For this pattern we are using only one stitch: the single crochet.

We’ll start at the toe and work our way up. When we reach the arch of the foot, we start increasing on both sides. Then when the desired foot measurement is reached we place some strategic decreases across the heel and pinch off for the ankle. Gorgeous!

To write this pattern I used the Stroll Fingering yarn in the “Sprinkle Heather” colorway. This is a beautiful, heathered yarn that has flecks of blue, purple, and green. The light plays off the colors just beautifully.

For the VIDEO tutorial I am using Capretta Superwash in the “Hemlock Heather” colorway.

Grab the ad-free, printable version of this pattern on Ravelry, Etsy, or right here in the Heart Hook Home Blog Shop. Thank you! If you need help reading a crochet pattern, make sure you head over here and check out this detailed post.

Materials:

Fingering/Size 1 yarn (Stroll Fingering in “Sprinkle Heather” pictured)
-approx. (210, 240, 310, 360, 420) yards total

Crochet hook in size 4mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Crochet hook in size 3.5mm (for optional edging)

(2) Stitch markers

Gauge: 17 sts x 22 rows in 3” using Single Crochet w/4mm hook (NOT the typical 4”)

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

The chain at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a stitch.

Even numbered rounds are ”Right Side”.

For the toe we are working in a spiral, for the foot and remainder we are joining and turning each round. Mark the first stitch of each round with a stitch marker.

These are intended to be ankle socks. However, if you wish to make them taller, once past the ankle rows simply continue the “leg” to make the socks as tall as you like.

  1. Hi, just wanting to check before I start on these, is the total yardage given for both socks (i.e. the pattern x2), or just for one sock? Excuse my ignorance, first time crocheting socks :) Thanks!
    1. Hi Debi! No, it says not the typical 4". Normally gauge swatches are measured in 4" squares, but for the socks the gauge is measured in 3" squares
