Are you working a pattern that calls for the Half Treble Crochet Stitch? This is a simple stitch that is nice and tall, and super easy to learn. Let’s do it!
Half Treble Crochet Stitch Tutorial
The Half Treble crochet stitch is a combination of several of the most common crochet stitches. Using aspects of the half double crochet, the double crochet, and the treble crochet, we’re making tall, plush stitches that are great to look at, too. This stitch works up great with a bulky weight yarn. For this tutorial I am using Brava Bulky in the “Umber Heather” and “Avocado” colorways.
It makes sense that we would love the Half Treble crochet stitch. Considering that both the regular half double crochet and the regular double crochet are favorite crochet stitches and this is so similar. When you need a pattern to work up a little more quickly… say you’ve got a quick turn around time… this could be the stitch that gets it done just in time.
This stitch is tall and elegant and is a great alternative to a Treble crochet stitch. Once you get going and in a groove, the rhythm of it feels very similar to a double crochet — just a bit taller. Perfect!

Htr Crochet Stitch Step-by-Step tutorial:
Chain any number to start. If you’re needing the stitch count to be a certain number, you’ll want to chain to that length, then add another 2 chains to account for the height of the first row.
Yarn over twice, insert the hook in the 3rd chain from the hook and pull up a loop. (4 loops on hook)
Yarn over and pull through two loops. (3 loops on hook)
Wanna save this for later?
Yarn over and pull through remaining three loops.
Stitch made!
Continue adding stitches until you get to the end of the chain.
To start a new row you will…
Chain 2 and turn, Htr in the first stitch of the row and in each stitch across.
Stay tuned for a new pattern featuring this gorgeous, plush stitch. I just know you’ll love it AND how quickly it works up!
