For the ninth cloth in the 2020 Cloth Series, we are working up cloths using the Brick Stitch. This stitch makes for great textured cloths that scrub everything from kitchen counters to shower doors – and everything in between.

While I also think this stitch would make for a wonderful and simple-to-crochet baby blanket or throw blanket, I also love the way this stitch works up in dish cloth form. It’s not holey at all, and not too thick either. To top it off, it’s not even a yarn eater. Awesome!

All of the cloths in this series are designed to be the same size. That way you can either have a set of 12 dishcloths or 12 placemats, or you could sew them all together to make a blanket!

Cloth sizes:

5.5″ x 5.5″ – great for a face cloth or for showering

11″ x 11″ – average washcloth size

18″ x 12″ – dish drying mat, place mat, dusting cloth etc.

Materials:

Dishie Cotton (Creme Brulee colorway pictured)
-approx. 34 yards for small
-approx. 128 yards for medium
-approx. 214 yards for large

In order to make all three of these cloths, I used just shy of two skeins of the Dishie cotton yarn.

  1. I was wondering if you could tell me the pattern size that would be in between? The small is too small and the medium too big. I am new to crocheting and not good at calculating the number of stitches needed to make a complete pattern. How many stitches do I need to use to make the pattern look even?
  2. I love your recipes & stitches, pattern tutorials but you don't have a print button set up for folks to print out those without the ads or extra pages.
  3. Can you start these using the hdc foundation chain? I hate chaining a certain length and then doing hdc into chain.
