And I have a feeling that the December installment will be well-loved as well!

Dog bone Christmas stocking

Since we are in December and many of us hang stockings for our dogs, I wanted this to be the most adorable dog bone stocking you ever did see! If you made just one of them, it would be a cute rug or small blankie for their kennel instead.

For this dog bone crochet Christmas stocking we are using worsted weight yarn. You could also use a fuzzy or boucle style yarn to make an adorable fluffy version. How cute are these?!

This dog bone stocking is make using two bones that are sandwiched together. We’ll crochet around the edges of the two bones going through both thicknesses to form a pocket. Then we’ll add a hanger and add any embellishments you like. You could add their name, a pom pom in contrasting color, or a cute little paw print. Adorable!

Great worsted weight yarn options include Brava Worsted (pictured in “red” and “grass”),ย Mary Maxim Starlette,ย Premierโ€™s Stitch Please,ย Herrschners Worsted,ย Red Heart Super Saver, or any of theseย worsted weight yarns from Lion Brand.

Brown example of a skein of Bubbly Boucle yarn propped up next to some plants.

I did make one using some left over Boucle Yarn I had on hand. I double stranded it to make it thick enough and it turned out beautifully! A great option if you have some as well, or Homespun from Lion Brand, or the Little Bunny fuzzy yarn from Premier. I’m thinking a BRIGHT PINK one using the Bubbly Boucle in “Popping Candy” that I used for my Odette cardigan would be perfect for a sweet little sassy dog.

  1. OMG!! Your dog bone stocking are hysterical ! Unfortunately we no longer have a dog or cat! We have many furry friends coming to visit in the summer (mostly to get away from the kids!!) and the dogs that take their masters for a walk never hesitate to stop outside our house to say woof! A treat bag would be a nice surprise for their master!! Thanks for the idea1
  2. Omigosh, how clever of you to come up with this construction! I love this stocking--thank you for all the photos to explain how it comes together. I, too, have some boucle yarn that I planned to use to make dog and cat blankets to donate to the shelter. Now I can add the stockings! Thanks again for all the pet patterns.
