Dog Treat Bag Free Crochet Pattern
This is the seventh installment of the 2024 Dog Crochet series and I am so proud of how it turned out! We’ve made all sorts of awesome things for our dogs (and cats) this year and this one is one of my favorites!
This dog treat bag pattern is the perfect size to hold treats while your furry friend is learning new tricks and obedience. Not too big, just enough to hold a handful of treats while you walk around and teach them the ropes. You can even hang it from the leash or attach it to your belt loop to always have it handy.
This DIY crochet dog treat pouch is going to be your dog’s new favorite thing. They see the pouch… they know the goods are coming! Most dog treat bags are just large enough to fit a handful of training treats inside. This crocheted version is in line with that sizing.
Having said that, this bag is different than others you may find because of the secure metal snap clasp, and the way we incorporate that into the design. It’s like those metal snap bracelets from when we were kids… snapping them on our wrists over and over again. It’s kinda fun to use!
I have included an option to use a drawstring closure instead because the metal clasps that I found are sold in 20-pks. I will find more uses for mine, but another great idea would be to make these and sell them at craft fairs! You know… in case you don’t need 20 of them.
We are using a mercerized cotton for this pattern. Mercerized cotton has been treated for durability and that’s exactly what we need from this design. The great news is that we don’t need much of it! Less than 100 yards and you’re finished. I am using Curio #3 for mine in the “Whisker” and “Navy” colorways.

Rounds 8 through 30 (or approx. 4โ tall): Wc in each st around. (48)
Round 31: sl st to center of next st, ch-3, Tr in each st around. (48) Sl st to first st made and fasten off leaving a ~20โ long tail.
Optional Metal Snap Clasp: Position the clasp so that you can fold the round of Treble crochets around the metal.
Using a yarn needle, seam around the metal clasp, encompassing it all the way around. It helps to make sure that you have the halfway mark on track. (24 sts for one half of the clasp and 24 sts for the other half.
Sew around securely and weave in all ends.
Optional Drawstring: If you donโt want to use the metal clasp you could instead make a drawstring using your preferred method (Lucet Fork, iCord, Romanian Cord, etc) that is approximately 12โ long. Feed it through the small spaces between the stitches around the bag. Tie like a shoelace.
Now you can reward your dog for good behavior or obedience on the go! I love that these little clasps hold the treats securely inside, and they are still easy to get out.
