The second pattern to be released from the gorgeous Alpine Collection is the Kazbek Cardigan. This is a fun, stylish, and comfortable crochet pattern ranging in sizes XS through 5XL.

Kazbek Cardigan (Alpine Collection)

The Kazbek Cardigan is a beautiful, open-front hooded cardigan pattern that is worked top-down and has an optional zipper closure. This is a size inclusive, super comfortable crochet pattern that is great for running errands in style or a night around the fire pit.

green zippered crochet cardigan

The Alpine Collection is a group of five garment designs that are all size inclusive and gorgeous, and feature the Alpine Stitch.

The Alpine Stitch is fun because it has loads of texture and great depth. I love it for garments when paired with a thinner yarn like Heatherly Sport, because it has a great drape and it hangs beautifully.

I love the optional zipper, and the diagonal-top pockets are a great finishing touch. Of course you could choose to leave those off as well, but I will never say “no” to pockets!

Grab the ad-free, printable version of this pattern on Ravelry, Etsy, or right here in the Heart Hook Home Blog Shop. Thank you!

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

The chain/s at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.

There are several decrease methods used in this pattern, so be sure to pay attention to those.

On the double crochet rounds always place the double crochet above the previous rowโ€™s Fpdc and place the Fpdc around the double crochet from 2 rows below.

Abbreviations:

Ch(s): Chain(s)
Sc: Single Crochet
St(s): Stitch(es)
Dc: Double Crochet
Sk: Skip
Fpdc: Front post double crochet
Sl st: Slip stitch
Dc2tog/Dc3tog: Double crochet 2(3) together
Fdc: Foundation double crochet
Hdcslst: Half double crochet slip stitch

Fpdc2tog = Front Post Double Crochet Two Together. This is a decrease used in the tapered version of the sleeves and to help shape the hood. To make this stitch, youโ€™ll do the first half of the stitch as a Front Post Double Crochet (leaving two loops on hook), skip the next stitch, and complete the second half of the stitch as a Front Post Double Crochet. This removes two stitches from the overall stitch count.

Fpdc3tog = Front Post Double Crochet Three Together. Same as Fpdc2tog above, except with three of the post stitches. This removes four stitches from the overall stitch count.
