This spring we are going to be rocking the prettiest crochet cardi in town. That is… the Maisey Cardi! This open work, airy shell crochet design creates a breathable fabric that is dreamy to wear and even more fun to crochet.

This Maisey Cardi has such an amazing drape. I am in love with the almost vertical columns this stitch creates. While the cardigan is working in horizontal rows, the columns it creates are slimming and stunning. It almost looks vertically worked, and I adore that!

This cardi pattern is written for sizes XS – 5XL, as most of my crochet patterns are.

My friend has a puppy named Maisey. When I purchased the yarn needed to make this cardi Maisey had a heyday with two of the skeins. It took me a good few hours to untangle and ball all of that yarn, but once I did I decided that this cardi will forever remind me of her, hence the name. โ™ฅ

Isn’t she gorgeous?! Such a pretty puppy, even if a bit naughty at the moment.

For this cardigan we are using Lion Brand’s Truboo yarn. This is a size 3 bamboo blend that is absolutely dreamy when used in an open weave stitch such as this. This design is going to be perfect over a tank top during all of the warmer months. I can’t wait!

The shell stitch of this design lends a definite feminine vibe. I am a big fan of pockets on cardigans, but for this design I decided that the delicacy of the stitch wouldn’t hold up well if pockets were added. You could, of course make up a small square (such as the gauge swatch) using the same stitch pattern and add that to the front.

  1. Can buttons or a button be added (and used) on this? The panels look a little narrow. How can they be widened so the front edges meet?
  2. I am making the color block sweater now. I am counting, and the increases are not matching the pattern. I frogged and counted even closer, but no better. Can you help me ? Thanks, Mary
