The Alpine Collection is comprised of five stylish, size inclusive crochet garment patterns that all feature – at least in part – the gorgeous Alpine Stitch. There is a poncho, a fitted sweater, an oversized hoodie, a sweater vest, and a hooded cardigan. Read on to learn more about this gorgeous collection.

The Alpine Collection

I have always had a thing for the Alpine Stitch. It has such depth and texture, and when paired with the right yarn it has amazing drape and a gorgeous plushness to the fabric. And when someone compliments your sweater or asks where you got it, you get to say “Thanks, I made it!”.

Because I love this stitch so much, and I had previously only used it to make the Alpine Baby Blanket, the I’ll Pine for you Cowl and Ear Warmers, I knew I needed to tackle my first ever independent collection in an eBook format – the Alpine Collection.

I fell so in love with the beautiful way to do decreases in this stitch, which gives a clean, straight edge into which we can add the edging. Absolutely gorgeous! This is the decreasing on the chest of the Ararat Sweater Vest in the collection. Isn’t that perfection?!

Now that I’ve discovered my favorite ways to use the Alpine stitch, look for more patterns featuring this stitch in the very near future including blankets, socks, and more!

For this collection we are using Heatherly Sport yarn. This is a size 2/sport weight yarn that is an 80% acrylic, 20% Merino wool blend. This is a stunning combination that makes for a wonderfully soft fabric.

-328 yards/100g/3.5 oz

All five of the garment designs in the Alpine Collection are suited for Heatherly Sport, and all five are named after a mountain. There is the Matterhorn Sweater, the Atlas Hoodie, the Ararat Sweater Vest, the Kazbek Cardigan, and the Everest Poncho.

Great substitutions would include Premier’s Cotton Fair, Hobbii’s Alpaca Silk, Berocco’s Lanas Light,ย ย Brava Sport, or any other acrylic/acrylic blend size 2/sport weight yarn that produces a nice drape and fabric using the provided gauge swatch pattern.

You can grab the collection in its entirety on Etsy or the Heart Hook Home blog shop. All of these designs are size-inclusive and absolutely dreamy to wear. If you need help reading a crochet pattern, make sure you head over here and check out this detailed post. Let’s dive into each pattern, shall we?

The Matterhorn Sweater

This fitted, top-down, raglan style sweater with tapered sleeves and a modest neck is the quintessential crochet sweater in the collection. This sweater has fitted sleeves (or use the straight sleeve pattern as ALL sleeves in the collection are interchangeable) and a slim fit. Sizes range from XS through 5XL and the top-down design means that you can make yours as short or as long as you like. Awesome!

The Kazbek Cardigan

This hooded cardigan is a top-down, raglan style cardigan that is open in the front with perfectly sized pockets. An open-front hooded cardigan is great for wearing on the go for running errands or for layering. Adding the optional zipper takes it up a notch. You can add the zipper by following this tutorial. You can choose to use the sleeve pattern included in the Kazbek pattern or use the tapered sleeve pattern from the sweater, as all of the sleeves in the entire collection are interchangeable between designs. The Kazbek Cardigan ranges in sizes XS through 5XL.

The Ararat Sweater Vest

A sweater vest really has a way of classing up an outfit. This is a classic fit sweater vest that features Alpine stitch on the chest and the Alternating Single Crochet Spike Stitch for the majority of the body. The feel of this fabric is perfection, and the vest adds just enough warmth. Make one in a solid “staple” color (such as “Rocking Chair” a lovely brown, pictured left on Cameron, or “Recess” a marled gray pictured right on Caden). Sizes range from S through 5XL.

The Everest Poncho

If you’re looking for a classically shaped poncho the Everest Poncho is a stunningly gorgeous example of one. This design has a simple two row repeat that grow and grows until you reach the end of the pattern or to your desired length. This poncho feels great on, with a lovely weight and drape that feels elegant and cozy. This is a one-size pattern that fits up to about 2XL.

The Atlas Hoodie

The perfect oversized hoodie is the Atlas Hoodie. Go up a pattern size from what you would normally wear to make it oversized, slap on the pocket, add the straight sleeves (or the tapered sleeves from the sweater as ALL sleeves in the collection are interchangeable) and you’re ready to hit the town! Sizes range from XS through 5XL.

I hope you love ALL of the designs in the collection. You can grab the collection in its entirety on Etsy or the Heart Hook Home blog shop.

If you’re only looking to make one of the designs, that’s okay too! Over the coming weeks I will be releasing each pattern individually here on the blog and with the option to purchase the printable PDF of just that design.
