Godiva Tee Crochet Pattern

The Godiva Tee is the perfect top to wear during summer months when the heat is too much to bear. I wanted a crocheted t-shirt that I could wear over anything. With oversized armholes and little windows for airflow, this free pattern pairs perfectly with your favorite camisole or tank top underneath.

Since this garment is intended to be worn during the heat of the summer months, we are using a cotton or cotton blend yarn. You could wear a bright colored tank top under a black Godiva Tee so that the bursts of color peek through. How fun would that be?

To make the Godiva Tee t-shirt crochet pattern we are using a size 2 yarn. Here I have used the Shine Sport in the “Cream” colorway and Comfy Sport in the “Silver Sage” colorway. I love the drape on them both! Each of these yarns has a heavy cotton component which gives great breathability as well as drape. If I could only design with one kind of fiber, a cotton blend would be it!

Great yarn alternatives for this design would be any size 2 yarn such as Premier Cotton Fair, and Hobbii Friends 8/6 Cotton. If you’re stash busting you could also try a swatch with Lion Brand Mandala or Mary Maxim Sunrise Yarn. Both would be a nice substitute for a size 3 yarn. Think of those colors! ♥

Ready to start on your T-shirt? First let’s choose the size. This design is intended to fit a bit loose, giving us about 3.5″ – 4.5″ of positive ease. First measure your bust, then find where you fall on the chart.

  1. I got all the way to row 40. Now I don’t understand what to do in rows 40-43. Can you give further instructions please?
  2. I feel like a beginner! On row 6 it says 'dc around the ch-sp and dc next st'. What does 'around' mean
  3. I'm having trouble with Row 21 (for small size). It says to dc in 77 sts only. I though it meant to DC then skip a stitch but that didn't seem right. I've read it a few times because I'm sure I'm missing something.
  4. On the Godiva Tee: For row 18 (size small) it states to repeat row 6 which was completed after a row of treble-chain 1. However, row 17 is all DC around. Should there be a row of tr-ch 1 prior to 18?
  5. Thank you for expressing the bust size/garment measurement the way you did. It not only gives us the exact info we need, BUT also perfectly explains what "positive ease" means. You are so good!
