Are you the type of person that puts your pots and pans in the dishwasher, or do you wash them by hand? I recently purchased a brand new pots and pans set and I have been super diligent about only washing them by hand. My scrubby sponges are nice, but this free pot scrubber crochet pattern is even better!

I can hardly believe that we have reached the end of the 2021 Household Crochet Series. It seems like just last week I published the first in the series, the Pan Protector pattern.

I am so glad you have enjoyed this journey of crocheting for the home this year! Now for the final installment of this series we are finishing off with a SUPER quick make that is very much needed in my home: a pot scrubber!

Examples of the Pot Scrubber crochet pattern in a teal and yellow colorway next to a bottle of dish soap.

This Pot Scrubber is double sided and squishy. It fits right in the palm of your hand and since it is stuffed – with tulle! – it’s easier to hold onto while you’re scrubbing the dishes. Great if you have arthritis too.

We are using tulle inside to puff up the design, and since it’s a material like this (instead of traditional stuffing) it will hold its shape and you can even throw them in the washer when needed! I love that!

Scrubby, store bought sponges are nice for cleaning pots and pans, but this free pot scrubber crochet pattern is perfect!

You can either buy tulle on the roll (like you would ribbon for crafting) or you can buy it from the bolt at the fabric counter. You sure don’t need much!

Materials:

Scrub-ology yarn
-one skein will make MANY scrubbers!

100% Cotton yarn
-any cotton will work, and you don’t need much!

Crochet hook in size J/6mm

Crochet hook in size G/4mm

Tulle (either on the roll, or off the bolt at the fabric counter)
-if you purchase off the bolt you’ll only need about 1/4 yard for several scrubbers!

Pattern Notes:

Pattern written using US terms.

This is a two-sided scrubber pattern. We will crochet two circles, then crochet around them going through both fabrics. We will stuff the tulle inside and complete the scrubber. So quick and easy!

Using the Scrubby yarn, with J/6mm hook, make one:

Round 1: Magic Circle. Ch-1, hdc 8x in circle. Join. (8)

Wanna save this for later?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it when you're ready.

Round 2: Ch-1, 2hdc in each st around. Join. (16)

Round 3: Ch-1, * hdc in next st, 2hdc in next * repeat between * * around. Join. (24)

Fasten off using Invisible Join. No need to weave in ends super securely.

Using the 100% Cotton yarn, with G/4mm hook, make one:

Round 1: Magic Circle. Ch-1, hdc 12x in circle. Join. (12)

Round 2: Ch-1, 2hdc in each st around. Join. (24)

Round 3: Ch-1, * hdc in next st, 2hdc in next * repeat between * * around. Join. (36)

Round 4: Ch-1, * hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next * repeat between * * around. Join. (48)

Do not fasten off.

Line up โ€œwrong sidesโ€ together.

Using the G/4mm hook and cotton yarn, ch-1 and turn so that you are looking at the scrubby side.

Sc through both fabrics all around, going through the third loop only on the scrubby yarn as pictured, and placing two cotton stitches per one scrubby stitch.

When you get about 2/3 of the way around, stop to fill with tulle. Use a ~3″ strip of tulle and just stuff it in. Continue crocheting shut and weave in all ends. Voila!

I am so sad to see the 2021 Household Crochet Series come to an end, but I am SUPER excited for 2022! We are going to whip up 12 different things that are useful for your CAR! I am SO excited about that, and to show you all that I have in mind. Stay tuned, we’ll continue the schedule of the second Friday of each month going forward.

  1. Fantastic article! Very insightful and perfectly penned. You coated the topic in wonderful element and offered excellent examples to back up your details. This article will be a great source for those searching to learn more with regards to the matter. Many thanks for The nice do the job!
  2. For years our local apple orchard's gift shop has sold scrubbys similar to this but the whole thing is made from tulle and stuffed with it as well like you did yours. This fall I was told they won't be selling them anymore because the woman that makes them doesn't want to do it anymore. I have been examining mine to try to figure out how to duplicate it but it doesn't appear to have two circles crocheted together on the edges, it it just looks like a stiffed ball. I have been buying these for years for stocking stuffers for my 5 daughters and myself, they are great pot scrubbers. I've never seen the scrubby yarn you are talking about. Do you think your pattern could be made with tulle that has been cut in narrow strips?
      1. They definitely can, I have been using tulle strips for years. Red Heart has some scrubby yarns that I have also used. This an awesome pattern. Much improved over my stiff scrubby
      2. Yes! The reason I started crocheting was because I ran out of scrubbies my grandmother had crocheted for me, out of tulle strips. She had passed so I had to learn how to make myself and then I was hooked. A room full of yarn, sweaters, blankets, etc.. later and I'm out of scrubbies again. Time to make more.
